I am trying to find approx. 14 officer reversion crosses (the kind past superintendents wear on their epaulette slip-ons. I would like either the metal ones or the cloth ones, i am not picky. i'm sure we could trade something or i can pay for them.

Since its so hard to get one, I've got an idea....

Does anyone know sewing machines well enough to stitch that white cross onto a black cloth??

I can use my old machine to create orange bars onto epaulets, but the reversion cross is a bit much. :-)

I think Adam was looking for a trade. I don't think there is any problem getting cloth reversion crosses by purchase from Ontario council?

Can you no longer order them from Province? I remembered ordering some about 6 months ago (the cloth kind).

They were just silk screened onto cloth, too - I wouldn't think it would be hard to get a local shop that does such things to print some, particularly if you have an example.

Well I have ordered them before (most recently last month) but they are never shipped. It's getting a little annoying.

By the way, I don't mind if it's a sale or a trade.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. If I can't get them from anywhere, I can always get them custom made.

I'll take a photo of one and show you.

I have the cloth version, actually looking for the metallic one for my #1 uniform.

I have never seen nor heard of a metal version being made/stocked/distributed. Adam was the recipient (first come first serve) of the remaining ones we had in stock here in BC. Hope I was able to help Adam...take care all..

Seems like it. UK doesn't have it, but knows what I'm referring to. Neither does China or Hong Kong.

My friend tells me its the same cross that Nursing officers used to wear way back in the olden days in Hong Kong.

Its not even on eBay !!! Boo hoo

I just emailed you a photo, but lets see if this image works here too:

Reversion cross

It comes in a black square background, and I actually just sewn it onto a black epaulette with orange BTS-1 bar.

I've never seen the metal version myself but my friend in Hong Kong SJ has seen the metal version of this cross, which is the Home Nursing badge for male members. He said it's very hard to find now as the metal ones are very old, and has been discontinued for a long time, but he'll still try to find if there's any hidden in the store.

But for this cloth one, I have no problem ordering them from the Ontario Council. You should be able to order from them too.

Well, I was able to accommodate Adam's request but these items are no longer produced or maintained at National Stores...so what your Councils have, is all they will have. I have, in helping Adam out, depleted what ones BC had on hand...no one here, and I mean no one, wears them so there was no problem in giving him what we had. Good luck to those who continue to search for such items...this is a great way (as Adam found out) to look for things like this.

I have never seen or heard of these crosses before this thread and am curious to what circumstances they would be worn? Someone mentioned that they are for ex-superintendents? Is this similar to the "R" that may be worn on epaulletes for people retired from a rank?

Thanks

Not only for ex-superintendents but in fact for all ex-officers, for whatever reason the officer chooses to step down from the officer position to become a member (private) again, the ex-officer will be entitled to wear this cross.

Blair,

It differs from retirement... when you "revert" back from officer status to member status, you are entitled to the Reversion cross (see the above picture... I always wanted to ask those members if they were "after me lucky charms," due to it's similarity to a clover!). When officer's retire, they are entitled to keep the last rank they had on their uniform for ceremonial functions if they still retain ties to the organization. They then wear the little metal "R" that you mentioned to notify others that their rank is symbolic of their former post. The reversion crosses just show others that a member used to be an officer (1-star or higher; doesn't apply to NCO's).

To be quite honest with you, I do not know of a formal policy written anywhere that states this (info comes from my personal history and experience with this organization).

Cheers.
Michael

Thanks for the clarification Michael. I have NEVER heard of this nor seen these crosses in Quebec. I'll check with those more in the know and see what they have heard.

Cheers,
Blair

A couple questions about the Reversion Cross...I'm currently the DS of my division, and will be stepping down in a couple months because I am moving at the end of the summer. My last day as DS will be June 30th and my first official SJA event where dress uniform will be required after stepping down will be the closing ceremonies of HIP7.

Who is supposed to give me the cross? Is it something that I can just go and order from stores/try to track down on my own, or is it something my branch should present to me? Also, if I leave my area (Guelph) am I right in thinking that I would be entitled to wear it, even if I rejoin in a new division?

Thanks,

Catherine

Catherine,

You can just order this cross from stores or try to track down on your own, as I don't think your branch will be presenting this to you, but maybe your branch will.

When you choose to transfer to another division you can remain the wearing of such cross unless you've chosen to accept another position (NCOs or officers) to the new division, then you will wear the rank you've accepted.

If I've mistaken someone please correct me. Thanks.

Help!

I'm still trying to find a set of Reversion Crosses, and if possible I'd like to get my hands on them before the Provincial Youth Rally next weekend (Next Saturday is my official last day as DS, so I'd love to have them in time for the rally closing ceremonies!) If theres anyone who can help me out, email me at cdicesare @ on.sja.ca and I'd even be willing to help pay to express ship them here (or if you're going to be at the rally, I can get them from you there). My branch has tried to get them rom stores from me without much luck!
